Vehicle Fire





5/16/05 In the evening hours, 247 was alerted to a vehicle fire on Charlemange Circle. The duty chief arrived to find a good engine compartment fire, and knocked it with a water can. E2471 arrived shortly thereafter and finished it off. Picture by Jason Harrold

Transfer to Station 264






4/28/05. E247-1 was alerted to transfer into Station 264 while they worked a major gas leak on Route 8. E247-1 covered district 264 for about two hours.

Alarm / Wires Down




4/26/05. Station 247 was alerted for power lines down on Thompson Run Road, and an alarm off at Dick's - Northway Mall. E247-1 and Truck 247 handled the alarm at Dicks while Station 261 was alerted to handle the wires down. After the alarm was cleared, E247-1 relieved E261 and awaited the arrival of Duquesne Light. Units were out a little over an hour.

Chimney Fire



4/24/05. Stations 247,261,264 Truck and 149 RIT were alerted to the 100 block of Elm Road for a chimney fire. E247-1 arrived to find a two-story residence with smoke from the chimney. E247-1 stretched a line and began to investigate. A small fire was found about halfway down the chimney and handle with an extinguisher. E247-1 and Truck 247 remained to check for any extension. Units cleared in about 45 minutes.

Crash





4/21/05 Station 247 was alerted to McKnight Road in the area of the post office for a vehicle crash with injuries. E247-1 arrived to find Ross West View EMS treating 1 patient. The Engine crew handled containment of fluids, and returned to service.

Small Fire at The Holiday Inn

At 22:34pm, Evergreen Station 246, Berkeley Hills Station 247, Laurel Gardens Station 253, Fire Police Station 254, and Ross/West View EMS were alerted for a smell of smoke in the basement at the Holiday Inn on McKnight Road. 247 Duty Chief Zappas arrived on scene at 22:38 with a six-story hotel, nothing showing. At 22:39, 247 Truck arrived, staged at the 1 / 2 corner, and sent their crew in to investigate. 253 Engine arrived shortly thereafter and staged at the hydrant, while 247 Engine arrived and took the standpipes in the front of the structure. 247 Asst. Chief Hill had interior operations and upon arriving in the basement, found smoke, and relayed this information to the command.

At this time, a second alarm was requested due to the size of the structure, bringing Highland Station 186 for their truck, West View Station 297 for 297 Air 4, Keating Station 252, and 510 Fire Marshall. The smoke was found to be coming from a trash can in the basement used for storing dirty rags, which had been smoldering. The fire was extinguished, units cleared the scene at 23:15 and all hotel guests were permitted to return to their rooms.
