Last night, on August 8, 2025, the Berkeley Hills Fire Company proudly celebrated a major milestone in the career of Live-In Firefighter Nathan Hezlep. After months of training, dedication, and commitment to mastering the skills required to serve our community, Firefighter Hezlep officially tested out of his rookie book and earned his black shield.
The black shield represents more than just a change in helmet color—it symbolizes a firefighter who has demonstrated proficiency, discipline, and the readiness to serve as a full member of the department. Firefighter Hezlep’s accomplishment reflects countless hours of training, teamwork, and the passion it takes to answer the call, day or night.
On behalf of the officers and members of the Berkeley Hills Fire Company, we say:
Congratulations, Firefighter Hezlep! Your dedication and hard work inspire all of us, and we’re proud to have you standing beside us in service to the community.
